Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary: Why Dragon Ball Card Game Is Surging

Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary: What Was Announced + Why Dragon Ball Card Game Is Surging

Okay...this genuinely deserved its own post.

A quick look at some of the FB09 reveals circulating right now.

Over the past couple of days, I’ve been receiving a lot of positive feedback, messages, and questions around Dragon Ball. At the same time, I’ve also noticed a huge influx of people picking up older Dragon Ball Fusion World boosters.

That’s usually a pretty strong signal - and it lines up perfectly with what was just announced during the Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary event (Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri).

TL;DR: Big anniversary announcements + fresh hype = people are revisiting older sets… and FB09 is quickly becoming the next major talking point.

What Was Announced During the Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Event

Bandai and the Dragon Ball team used the 40th anniversary celebration to make one thing clear: Dragon Ball is entering a big new era across anime, games, and the wider franchise.

  • A Dragon Ball 40th Anniversary Special Video was released globally - a tribute-style celebration of the franchise. The music was composed by Hans Zimmer
  • Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol was announced as officially in production. This is the one people have been waiting for, because it points directly to the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc (aka the Moro Arc).
  • Dragon Ball Super: Beerus was revealed as an “enhanced” revisit of the Battle of Gods era - new cuts, improved visuals, and a refreshed presentation.
  • New Dragon Ball game project “AGE 1000” was revealed as part of the anniversary push, with more details expected later.

Why this matters: when the franchise is this active, it creates a knock-on effect across collectibles. People get nostalgic, new fans jump in, and suddenly older product starts moving again.

The Moro Arc (Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc): Why Fans Are So Hyped

I also need to call out the Moro Arc, because this is one of the biggest reasons the community is getting loud right now. The new anime announcement around Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol connects directly to the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc from the manga.

In simple terms: this arc is where things go galactic. Goku and Vegeta get pulled into a full-blown space-level threat, and the villain Moro is a completely different type of problem - the kind that makes the stakes feel massive again.

  • ✔ It’s a fan-favourite manga arc that people have been waiting to see animated
  • ✔ It brings fresh story energy, new characters, and that “Dragon Ball is back” feeling
  • ✔ It pulls attention back into the franchise… and that hype naturally spills into TCG and collectibles

Why I’m Seeing a Spike in Older Fusion World Boosters

When the community gets excited, it usually starts with the “easy wins”: people jump back in by grabbing older boosters, finishing collections, and stocking up before the next wave hits.

  • ✔ Returning fans want to re-enter without waiting for the next release
  • ✔ Collectors start filling gaps before hype pushes demand even further
  • ✔ Players stock up when they feel the format is about to shift

And right now, the “next release” that keeps coming up is FB09: Dual Evolution.

Fusion World FB09: Dual Evolution - Why It’s Getting So Much Attention Early

Since the anniversary announcements dropped, I’ve personally been receiving a lot of interest specifically around FB09. And the biggest topic I keep seeing is the introduction of the new God Rare rarity ★★, especially the one featuring Vegito.

My honest read: introducing a brand-new rarity tier during a milestone anniversary year isn’t something that happens often. This is exactly the kind of move that turns a normal set into a “reference-point” release for collectors.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to revisit Dragon Ball (or pick up older boosters you missed), this is honestly one of the most active moments we’ve seen in a while.

Between the 40th anniversary momentum, the Moro Arc hype, and the buzz building around FB09 (especially the new rarity), it’s not surprising to see Dragon Ball product moving the way it is right now.
